Crown Hair Loss and Solutions

Change is inevitable but not always welcome – especially when it comes to hair loss. One of the most common spots for receding hair is at the crown. This particular area will most likely be the first place men notice a change. But before you take to the razor, here are some helpful solutions for combating hair loss at the crown.

Grooming

Let’s start with grooming. It’s one of the easiest ways to make a quick difference in appearance. There are several products on the market that simply don’t work with thinning hair. For example, if you use a wax or gel, it’s time to retire them. These products weigh down the hair, which will highlight the balding areas rather than hide them. If products are a must, use something lightweight. Powders and sprays work really well.

Wash it out

There is a lot of advice suggesting it’s best to wash your hair as little as possible. That rule only applies if you have a full head of thick hair. When your hair is thinning however, you need to wash it more often. Oils on the scalp are great for hair health, but too much can weigh it down. We don’t suggest using a clarifying shampoo as they can strip away too many essential oils. Try to find one that is designed for volume and use a clarifying conditioner.

Get the right cut

When it comes to hair loss, you want to draw attention away from the problem area. The right hair cut can do just that. Since the crown sits at the top of the head, you want to keep the sides long. Asking your barber to add some texture will also give the illusion of depth.

Hair Restoration

Hair restoration is the only permanent solution for hair loss. It works two ways. Follicular Unit Transplant moves individual hairs from one part of the body to another. This process is great for smaller, concentrated areas. Follicular Unit Extraction uses larger strips of skin and hair to cover more significant bald spots including the crown area.
